What projects are you trying to get going this new year? I wanted to start off 2014 on a good foot so I hopped on a plane and flew to Minneapolis on New Years Day to record some songs with my good friends at The Pearl Recording Studio. I guess Minnesota in January is not a destination where people want to fly to for the weather, so I was able to get roundtrip airfare for $180 ( including tax!) While the windchill outside was pushing -50°, I was safely nestled in a cocoon of sound inside the studio. We spent three days recording and two day mixing songs for my sophomore project, Cloud 9000.
I've decided to release Cloud 9000 in a series of three EP's instead of a full length album. Each EP is being recorded in a different locale with a different producer and set of musicians; Alamosa, CO where I grew up; Minneapolis, MN where I recorded the first album; and on Colorado's Front Range where I now reside. I wanted to include each of the musical communities that have a special place in my heart on Cloud 9000.
Working on the project in this manner will hopefully help me pick up some steam and build more buzz as the project progresses. This approach also goes hand in hand with the subject matter of many of the songs on Cloud 9000. Today's society is fractured and what we need is more sense of community. The message in these songs is all about being there for not only the ones you love, but also having a tender place in your heart for total strangers. We can gain understanding by realizing we are all just trying to do better for ourselves and the ones we love. There is no need to divide ourselves into groups of "us" and "them".
Cloud 9000: Vol. 1, The Minneapolis EP will be released on Tuesday, March 4th, 2014. But, you can hear the premier of the new studio recordings by tuning into the KRFC radio program Live@Lunch today Wednesday the 29th from 12-1 pm (MDT). Live@Lunch is a daily showcase of live music. I'll be performing the whole hour, and I'd love if you'd join me by streaming from anywhere in the world at: http://www.krfcfm.org/programming/krfc-live-stream/

An exchange of gifts: I'm holding the final mixes in my hand while my producer Zach Hollander is holding some honey from the farm I used to work at in southern Colorado, SImply Honey.
Finishing Touches:
David Glasser mastered Cloud 9000 Vol. 1 at Airshow Mastering
in Boulder, CO. He has mastered many of my personal favorite albums so it was a pleasure to get to work with him! His credits include over 80 Grammy nominees and he holds two Grammy's for his own work.
